Name: Kyla Dammann
Title: Social Work Practicum Student
Credentials: MSc
Hi, I’m Kyla. I know what it feels like to be stuck in my head and wondering if anyone truly understands me. I’m here because I deeply believe in the ability of therapeutic relationships to help us navigate this wild and precious life. My approach is with genuine warmth and directness (no sugarcoating, but zero judgment). I believe in weaving community resources and relationships into the process, honoring you as a whole, interconnected being. I promise to meet you where you are with empathy that’s real, communication that’s clear, and a therapeutic space that invites authenticity.
From an intersectional lens, I blend strengths-based and systems-focused therapy. I love to work with teens and young adults. I am passionate about creating, facilitating, and participating in community-oriented spaces where people from diverse backgrounds feel safe being vulnerable, processing and addressing challenges, and building life skills. I am a practicum student completing a Masters of Social Work through the University of Alaska Anchorage. I have worked in teen mental health for most of my adult life and am excited to be continuing that journey with Maitri Holistic Therapy and Wellness. When I’m not here, I can be found exploring the Alaskan wilderness, playing with my dog, or making music.
Experience
Kyla is a practicum student working on a Master’s degree in Social Work through the University of Alaska Anchorage. She has a Master’s of Science in Violence, Conflict and Development from the London School of Oriental and African Studies, where she studied the spectrum of violence and how it impacts people locally and globally. Starting as a peer supporter, she has supported teen mental health since she was one. She has worked as a challenge course facilitator, outdoor trip leader, after school program coordinator, and as an in-school adult supporter. She is passionate about creating, facilitating, and participating in community-oriented spaces where youth from diverse backgrounds feel safe being vulnerable, processing and addressing challenges, and building life skills. She is also passionate about the therapeutic capacity of outdoor adventure. She is most excited when these things happen at the same time!
